A grid synchronization technique is essential for grid-connected power converters. Phase-locked loop (PLL) has been widely exploited as an implementation technique, but additional efforts are required to deal with severely distorted grid voltages. In this paper, an observer is proposed to enhance the performance of PLL. A state equation is newly formulated to construct the observer, which extracts positive-sequence voltage from the distorted grid voltage. Additionally, guidelines are suggested to set the observer gains by considering its internal transfer functions. The PLL and proposed observer have been tested in simulations and experiments in contrast to dual second-order generalized integrator frequency-locked loop. The results have shown that the proposed method reveals a better phase-tracking performance for grid synchronization. In this paper, an energy-efficiency model is first proposed for multiple-input– multiple-output orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) mobile multimedia communication systems with statistical QoS constraints. Employing the channel-matrix singular value decomposition (SVD) method, all subchannels are classified by their channel characteristics. Furthermore, the multichannel joint optimization problem in conventional MIMO-OFDM communication systems is transformed into a multitarget single-channel optimization problem by grouping all subchannels. Therefore, a closed-form solution of the energy-efficiency optimization is derived for MIMO-OFDM mobile multimedia communication systems. As a consequence, an energy-efficiency optimized power allocation (EEOPA) algorithm is proposed to improve the energy efficiency of MIMO-OFDM mobile multimedia communication systems. Simulation comparisons validate that the proposed EEOPA algorithm can guarantee the required QoS with high energy efficiency in MIMO-OFDM mobile multimedia communication systems. Constellation based codebooks provide scalability and efficient codeword search capability, which are key features for practical multiuser MIMO-OFDM systems with a large number of antennas. The proposed clustered quantization scheme quantizes consecutive subcarriers into a single codeword that minimizes aggregated quantization errors. We base our new clustering techniques on two constellation based quantization methods, namely equal-magnitude angular quantization (EMAQ) and squared-lattice angular quantization. New efficient codebook search algorithms are proposed for the clustered quantization. In addition, we propose new constellations to guarantee different users quantize channels into distinct codewords. One is a rotated MPSK constellation suitable for randomly-distributed user scenarios, and the other is a random phase equalmagnitude (RPEM) constellation suitable for ill-conditioned user scenarios. Thus, full spatial multiplexing gain can be achievable even with small number of users. Finally, a near-sphere codeword search algorithm is proposed for the RPEM. In simulations, the proposed clustered quantization shows up to 50% higher throughput compared to conventional fixed-pilot channel quantization. Also, we show our new constellations for EMAQ improve throughput almost 35% compared to the standard EMAQ. ETPL Com 003 Channel Quantization Using Constellation Based Codebooks for Multiuser

A major knowledge gap exists on how eruptive compositions of a single martian volcanic province change over time. Here we seek to fill that gap by assessing the compositional evolution of Elysium, a major martian volcanic province. A unique geochemical signature overlaps with the southeastern flows of this volcano, which provides the context for this study of variability of martian magmatism. T...
